BIM-web N.V. Project

One of our projects achieved a significant milestone with our client BIM-web N.V. in releasing the first version of their engineering software Caesar. Find out the importance of this project and milestone from Łukasz, a member of the Algoteque BIM-web N.V. project team.

Imagine a building – this might be a stadium, school, hospital, or your favorite shoe warehouse.

What is it that you really see?

Technically, it is the final stage of a complex process that begins with a vision, an idea of its purpose, and how it should look.

Then all the “engineering stuff” gets involved, usually starting in a design studio where a 3D model of a building is created using a computer-aided design (CAD) program, like “AutoCAD,” “Revit,” “CATIA,” etc. Here the vision, ideas, and functional requirements are getting their digital form: basement, garage, walls, windows, and floors.

Nowadays, the 3D model can also be created by scanning an existing building with sophisticated devices like laser or ultrasonic scanners.

However, this is just the beginning – the building still needs to be equipped with all kinds of installations: electrics, water, air conditioning, fire alarms, computer networks, and others.

The process requires a lot of effort in terms of engineering (design), calculation, material purchases, installation on-site, etc. It is expensive and requires a qualified workforce; therefore, any improvement or help in these fields is a game-changer.

Imagine hundreds or thousands of devices to be installed, kilometers of cables, ducts, pipes that need to be ordered, produced, bundled, and put in the right place, millions of mounting holes to be drilled in order to hold all the trays and hangers… It seems easy for a small building, but what about a larger building such as a school or hospital…?

But is there any way to make it better, faster and – last but not least – more “economically efficient”?

The answer is “yes,” and this is where “Caesar” application comes into play.

By releasing the first official version of the app, we achieved an important milestone in cooperation with our client BIM-web N.V. The engineers can now use “Revit” + “Caesar” duo to work on any project much more efficiently and simulate/manipulate the data in real-time.

Here are the main features of our application:

  • Search and draw the shortest routes for installations visible as colorful elements/lines in the 3D project
  • Allow manual changes for suggested routes
  • Allow assignment of cable types for any connection (using manual selection or existing user templates)
  • Generate device validation reports
  • Mark (show position) of any device used in the project
  • Generate detailed reports for production and financial departments
  • Generate output of all cable bundles for the production unit (Conntech B.V.)
  • Save all the project and calculation data into a database for further usage and/or modification

All the above allowed to decrease the time spent by engineers on the calculation part from hours or even days to minutes! Plus, the solution is highly elastic and re-calculates the output according to users’ wish: whether it’s just a device position change, or cable type selection, or price margin adjustment or hourly wage change.

That said, level completed – and the next challenge to come!
